surveillance pt.2

Twitter

When I was doing this assignment, I personally think that I did better compare to the first one of this that I did. It didn’t have much of overlap which I personally think it’s something better. With this video, I added screenshot of pictures for the video and also screen recording of the video example of surveillance. It’s something new to me which it’s still a bit hard for me. For the screenshot of the news and the forum posts on twitter, I find it was easy and I was able to handle the screenshot. However, when I was adding in the screen recording of the video example, it was harder than I thought. The video was not in the full screen compare with screenshots, some of the subtitles were cut off and a bit of the top were also cut off. For this part, I do not know how to fix it although I’ve tried many ways, but the video still shows most of the video.

The reason why I chose this to do Brooklyn 99 to be part of my video is because I find it interesting when I was watching it. Although it’s not called “surveillance”, but the way and style of the “stingray” works, it’s the same as how surveillance works. And also, it’s because Brooklyn 99 season 6 just came out and I was watching it when this topic came up. I find it different from others because it actually explained how it works but in a show way.

When I was going through my feed on Twitter, I saw this post about how the Hong Kong polices were hacking into their citizen mobile phones while they were arrested to check whether the they were part of the protest or not. Personally, I think that this is the bad way to use surveillance, although they were trying to find out if the citizen where part of it. They still do not have the right to hack into someone’s privacy especially with this kind of situation. That is why I decided to use this tweet to be my forum because I wanted to tell the audience that this is the bad way to use it in the modern society.

For the news that I have picked, I find it very interesting how London have finally decided to use the facial reorganisation technologies when it comes to surveillance for serious crime after being tested so long. It explained on how accurate the system was and why they have decided to adapt this method into their city. Which this makes me think, they have mentioned that they have finally use the facial reorganisation after adopting a level of surveillance of China. Will this make them adapt more things that’s like China? If this method is successful, is it possible that they are going to add more CCTV cameras around London more for their safety or will they spread out to different cities in United Kingdom. This is something to find out in the future and connected with any updates.

Although this video might not be full of contents, but I personally think that I have improved my editing skills, wouldn’t say it have improved a lot, but I believe it is better than the previous one. I have stated some facts towards surveillance in the video. The reason why I chose to do surveillance is because I find it interesting on how much privacy we have nowadays in our society. I feel like the safest place is probably our homes but sooner or later I believe that it will no longer be our safest place anymore. Maybe in the future, we will be watch during our meals or even when we are sleeping. I understand that this is for our own safety but sometimes I think it can also be too much for them to always be watching us.

Surveillance

Youtube

For this assignment, what I wanted to talk about is to let the audience know the basic knowledge of surveillance. I wanted them to know that they are everywhere. No matter where you go, do or even who you are. I also wanted them to know and be aware with everything they do since nowadays technologies are well developed. Which makes everything a lot easy than how it was compare to before. Also reminding them to be safe with their personal devices because people can hack into the system and look at them thru the camera that’s available on their devices.

When it comes to planning this assignment, at first, I didn’t know what to talk about or which topic to use but then I started off my going thru the lecture slides and grab some ideas. I started off by writing my script with what I wanted to talk about in the video, after that I started to draw small amount of story board. At least something that I could outline so I know what to film and what to add into the video. In my mind, I had a better view of how the video was going to look like but since this is my first time filming alone, without any help from my friends, it seems to be harder than I expected. The angle of me filming myself might not be the best angle, might have a few of head room and not the video might not be straight. What I wanted to do in this video is less video of myself, which means most of the time that I was talking, there’s going to be several layers of different videos above the main part. For music, I tried to find the right part to fade and match with how I talk the most so that it doesn’t sound off later when putting it together.

When I was making this video, I’ve already left Australia, so the weather was opposite. Right not in Hong Kong its cold and I was really sick on the day that I made this. I had no choice to film it on this day because I will be away and won’t have any time to do it. I kept sneezing throughout the videos, I had to keep redo them every time I sneeze, or my nose is blocked. Where I live, there’s hardly any places that’s tall and can take videos from the top so I had to tiptoe as high as I can in order to get the angle of how a security camera would look like. Personally, I think in the future for my last assignment I could improve my video taking skills and improve my editing skills even more.

First ever vlog!!

This is my first ever vlog video so something new to me. I’ve never thought that I would be doing a video and editing it myself. I feel like me doing question and answer by asking the audience would be more fun and let them know about me. I think that it was a bit challenging for me to create something that’s not boring for the audience and at the same know about me. At first, I thought it was going too hard to create a vlog about myself since I don’t know how to talk to myself at all like at first it was a bit of embarrassing, but I got thru it. The main problem that I faced doing this assignment is that I went over time and it was pretty hard for me to cut out but luckily, I paused a lot during my video so that wasn’t a big problem for me at all. I used the benefit of me pausing a lot between different questions, this made it easier for me to cut down questions as well in order to fit within the requirement. I think after submitting this assignment, I would probably start vlogging about my daily life, activities or even things that the audience want to know. This is an opportunity for me to practice my editing skills as well and also for my setting skills.

On the other hand, I think that I need to plan out more in terms of background and how I place my camera. Seems like I have a lot of headroom which is unnecessary since there’s nothing to focus above. The transition of the video, some parts were a rough because I really don’t know which transaction the best is to put it. I would say that I need to plan more for my next video especially the setting: lighting and background. I think that the audio for this vlog was a bit interrupted because of the background noise but you could still here my voice clearly. Personally, I think it was a bad idea to it outside of the room due to the lighting is too bright and it could affect you when you’re talking to the camera. I think that I had a pretty good engagement with the audience by involving them to ask me questions with what they want to know about me. I might not be able to answer all them, but I tried my best to answer the basic questions that they want to know about me.

France VS Indonesia

In the above, is the difference between 2 countries, Indonesia and France. In some of the groups, the difference between these 2 countries are not that far away from each other like; Power Distance, Masculinity, Long Term Orientation and Indulgence. The biggest gap between these 2 countries would be the Individualism. Asian have the believe that you have to follow the culture and you have to committed to your family but on the other hand, for the French, they are more likely to be free and do things individually without any control.

For the French ad, it’s from McDonald’s in France and the title of it is called “childhood is inside”. By looking at the ad, it shows how the kid is having a freedom and not being controlled by their parents. This refers to the individualism of the French on how much freedom the parents give to their kids or even in general.

Oreo Indonesia have created an ad where you have to compliments the machine in order for the new launch Oreo to come out. This might not be something big but if you look at it, to collect the new Oreo, you have to follow the instructions in kind of way. Instead of having the freedom to say anything to the machine. You may think that you can say anything but instead there’s actually a step for you to build up. #ALA102DC

Branding

Kellogg’s isn’t Kellogg’s without Aussie Farmers

Kellogg’s produced many kinds of cereals and a lot of people had them back in their childhood. In the advertisement, it also given 2 examples of their products, “cornflakes” and “rice bubbles”. But by looking at the pictures on the ad, you can see that they only mentioned “flakes” and “bubbles”. This links back to the headline of the ad, “Kellogg’s isn’t Kellogg’s without Aussie Farmers”. The subtitle has said that without the Aussie farmers, they wouldn’t make it to where they are right now. Not many people know that they would only support the Australian farmers and where the cereals were made. This shows that they support the Australia’s culture and wanting to maintain it. If you can see in the products, the missing products for both cereals are “rice” and “corn”, which is why they have left with those words. It was attention grabbing for the audience and unexpected because not everyone would think that they would only support the local farmers.

Los Retornados – KFC

In the description, it said that KFC will be launching their new product which is “Chikadilla” with a quotation “who better to try it than someone who’s returned from the other side”. With the design of the posters, it’s very similar to the movie “COCO”. They have tried to link with their own culture which is attention catching and plus it’s only available in Portugal and the meaning of retornado is a Portuguese settler who was forced to return to Portugal from Africa during the decolonisation process. This is very unexpected how they relate KFC which is popular all across the world and them adapting the culture of each country to catch the audiences’ attentions.

First ever podcast.

For the topic that I did for my podcast is about the benefits and limitations towards the students’ learning when using digital media. To get the results to support the argument, I did some research to find out more about the limitation and benefits. Not only articles from researchers that I have looked at, but I also looked at parents and teachers’ point of view to see what they think about involving technology in learning. Turns out the number of agreeing and disagreeing balanced out. Some parents think it’s okay to start using it at the early age and some doesn’t. People have different mindset and point of view and we can’t change how they think and want. Most of the information that were mentioned in the podcast were taught during the lecture. So, the way I refer the article back to the podcast, I said the article’s name instead of the author(s) to make it much more flow and not confuse the audiences.

Referring back to the topic, personally I think that the schools should allow students to learn by using digital media because it takes time different programs/system. It’s better to start early than later. Also, they should allow them to bring their own personal devices but only at certain age since they might be too young to take care of their belonging.

This is my first ever podcast, so it was pretty challenging for me in terms of reading out the script and editing the voice record. It took me at least 3-5 times to record one paragraph because I kept messing up and paused at the time when I wasn’t supposed to. Finding the right music for this podcast wasn’t easy. You would need to find something that is suitable and fit in between your next line/sentence. If your topic is something very serious and the music is very upbeats, then the podcast story wouldn’t connect and make any sense to the audience to listen. When I found the right music to fit in the podcast, turns out there’s no information about the copy right so I had to find it the one that have the copy right signs.

I think that the hardest part during editing would be the way of fitting the music and the voice recording smoothly. If you don’t do it smoothly, you could can hear the sudden cut from music to podcast. The way I did it was, I cut the music from 10 secs before it finishes because at the end of the music, you can hear the slow fading to end the song. This way would make my podcast have a smooth transit. I actually enjoyed producing the podcast even though I might may some difficulties but for sure in the future, I’ll do better than this. Maybe by then I look back at my first podcast be very proud of myself.
